THe SRC Winter Party was a Hit!

A good 50 people--our members, their loved ones and friends made it. And I think a lovely time was had by all.

Heartline's food was superb as always, there was music, laughter, nog, and drinks for all. The wacky  gift exchange was a riot. The waterbabies took to the pool inspite of the chill in the air. The bravest stuck it out till the very end for piano playing and melodious harmonizing by anyone left standing!

Thanks to everybody who helped make it so much fun. We all helped to make it a great party. Special appreciation to those who came early to help get things set up: that's Scott, Sydney, Eric and Linda Haggard and more. Eddie couldn't be with us that night, but he put up the decorations that Ted had been good enough to provide. Harold made it possible to enjoy the deck by lending his magnificent flame-tube heater--something to bear in mind if you have patio heating needs of your own! Jeff  provided the showstopper when he made his appearance as Elvis. And James Ball, piano player extraordinaire (yes, he really can sight read music upside down)! And so many more made it special in so many ways! We missed Linda Damita, called away at the last minute, Linda Rogers and Kathleen and Dan and Peggy and Patti. who had so wanted to be there, and everyone else who wasn't able to join in the fun.

A few items were left behind (which is the main reason for this posting): a man's camel suede jacket, a couple of gifts, some food which I ate, and some unopened drinks and cups which I will bring with me Wednesday to be saved for future celebrations.

Thanks again to all! And see you again soon!

The Tao of Water

Nothing in the world is more gentle than Water
Yet nothing is stronger.
Water nurtures life
Yet carves through solid rock
Overcomes all obstacles
With the strength of gentleness.

Combining Cinnamon and Honey For Health

The following is a reprint of an email we posted last August. It had been sent by a friend with a lively interest in eating right. I have not found independent verification for the theory nor copies of the research cited, but I have tried the combination and it is delicious. So I for one intend to try some of the recipes for a week and if, say, my hearing improves or I lose weight, I'll be sure to let you know. And if you try it, be sure to post a Comment to let us know what you think.

Did You Know?
Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. It will do what some call turning to sugar. In reality honey is always honey. However, when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will do what I rather call "crystallizing".
When this happens I loosen the lid, boil some water, and sit the honey container in the hot water, off the heat and let it liquefy. It is then as good as it ever was. Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. To do so will destroy the enzymes in the honey.

Cinnamon and Honey
It has been found that a mixture of honey and Cinnamon helps treat many ailments. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a 'Ram Ban' (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without any side effects.
Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients.

Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada, in its issue dated 17 January 1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon as researched by western scientists:

HEART DISEASE:
Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack.
Also, those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat.

In America and Canada , various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the
 arteries and veins.

ARTHRITIS:
Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. Recent research conducted at Copenhagen University found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated, practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain, and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.

BLADDER INFECTIONS:
Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.

CHOLESTEROL:
Two tablespoons of honey and  three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours.
As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS:
Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and clear the sinuses.

UPSET STOMACH:
Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.

GAS:
According to the studies done in India and Japan , it is revealed that if Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM:
Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacterial and viral diseases.

INDIGESTION:
Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals.

INFLUENZA:
A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural ' Ingredient' which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

LONGEVITY:
Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Take four spoons of honey, one spoon of cinnamon
powder, and three cups of water and boil to make like tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans also increase and even a 100 year old, starts performing the chores of a 20-year-old.

PIMPLES:
Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it next morning
with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root.

SKIN INFECTIONS:
Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.

WEIGHT LOSS:
Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. If taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though
the person may eat a high calorie diet.

CANCER:
Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder for one month three times a day.

FATIGUE:
Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens, who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts, are
more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M. when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, increases the vitality of the body within a week.

BAD BREATH:
People of South America , first thing in the morning, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

HEARING LOSS:
Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restores hearing.

Again, if you try it out for yourself, be sure to post a Comment telling us how it went.

Enery Orbs at Sedona Holistic's Watsu Pool

Energy experts agree that pale orbs can often appear in places of unusual healing powers. Often called 'vortexes' in Sedona, the one most visible in this picture is just to the right of the southeast corner of the pool. And that's Chimney Rock jutting out above the roofline.

Sedona Holistic Hosting Feline Victims of Thursday's Hailstorm and Floods

Here at Sedona Holistic we are fortunate to have escaped the devastation of yesterday's violent hailstorm and flash flooding that destroyed many parts of our town. We are getting ready to host some of the cats whose homes are currently unlivable.

Click here to watch the video

One of our loveliest shopping areas, the artists' village of Tlaquepaque, was severely damaged. Of all the cars in the parking lot at the time the floods hit in--peak afternoon shopping time--few survived total destruction. I am told that the floods smashed them into each other and in many cases piled them one on top of the other. For those of you who are familiar with our facility here, I can report that the wash overran its banks and filled with the most violent torrents hurtling down from Thunder Mountain for nearly an hour.

But the walls were strong and held fast and I am grateful to those who put such backbreaking work into building them. Just as soon as the worst emergencies around Sedona are taken care of, we'll put a crew together to clear out the silt and debris. So that we'll be ready for next time.

Many thanks to Superintendant Gordy Waite of K&A General Contracting, who came over to help find the source of a leak--which seems to be the one bit of damage we sustained over here. A well built, beautiful construction.

Health Care Debate

However you may be feeling about this the most animated national debate of our times, Sedona Holistic encourages you develop informed opinions on possible changes to our health care system. Whatever decisions get or don't get taken over the next few years, the consequences for all of us will be far-reaching for a long time to come.

We are the only industrialized nation in the world which does not place the health of its citizens on a par with, say,  national security or public education. We are alone in going to the polls year after year with no opportunity to endorse an administration's performance on health care--or send it packing. Whether as an American this makes you proud or leaves you perplexed, the fact is we occupy a unique vantage from which to view the experience of countries that have gone before us, pioneering a concept of health care as a right  rather than a commodity. And while each nation has gone about it in its own way--the Canadian system or the British National Health have little in common with what the French or the Belgians do, a vast amount of information is already available as to what works and what doesn't. And so the delay in setting up an American system of our own will likely give us a leg up towards getting where we are going.

Here is a link to an article on the Canadian health care system which I suggest for its informative rather than its proselytizing  content:  Don't Get Sick.

While We're Away

Our love of theater and voice have taken us this year to Scotland for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It is an amazing three weeks organized every August to accompany the International Festival and features performances of all kinds by professionals and students from every corner of the globe. It starts early and ends late in every conceivable type of venue, from the dingiest basement cavern to nightly fly-overs by F16s to accompany the nightly military tattoos. There are, literally, hundreds of shows--song, circus, satire, you name it. Tourists and townies pour through every street, 'What show is this queue for?' 'What have you seen?' 'Was it good?' 'Do you think I can still get a ticket?' like ritual litanies bonding the faithful in their thespian pilgrimages. A must for any who love the stage and we hope to return next summer when the Arizona monsoons returns to shut down the Watsu pool again.

If you would like details of the trip's events, please visit Lambeau Light.

What's it all about?

People won't care how much you know till they know how much you care.

I didn't coin the phrase. If I knew who did, I would give them credit for it. Nevertheless, it's true. You could be the smartest person in the world, the most knowledgeable expert in your field, if you're indifferent to people's concerns, they'll have no use for you.

Prizes and awards and degrees may feed and stroke the ego. They earn us recogniton from our peers. But only the heart can connect with people in a meaningful, lasting way.

Welcome to Sedona Holistic!

Here at Sedona Holistic we are proud to join the many of our fellow bloggers interested in discovering and discussing alternative approaches to growth, health and spiritual development.

Our goal is to support the scientific discourse that seeks to integrate the un-Aristotelian, the unorthodox, the mystical, the Oriental, traditional wisdom and the divine. We salute the pioneers of the Western scientific community whose focus is shifting away from crowding out concepts for which it had no language but rejection, and towards the value such knowledge brings to our quest for truth and goodness.

We admire the thinking of Albert Einstein, Lyall Watson, Fritjof Capra, Craig Childs and Carl Jung, to name only a few. It is our hope that the many people out there who are interested in these topics will find things in this blog to encourage and inspire them. And for those of you more knowledgeable than ourselves, we hope you will consider favoring us with your contributions from time to time.
