Sedona Holistic Hosting Feline Victims of Thursday's Hailstorm and Floods

Here at Sedona Holistic we are fortunate to have escaped the devastation of yesterday's violent hailstorm and flash flooding that destroyed many parts of our town. We are getting ready to host some of the cats whose homes are currently unlivable.

One of our loveliest shopping areas, the artists' village of Tlaquepaque, was severely damaged. Of all the cars in the parking lot at the time the floods hit in--peak afternoon shopping time--few survived total destruction. I am told that the floods smashed them into each other and in many cases piled them one on top of the other. For those of you who are familiar with our facility here, I can report that the wash overran its banks and filled with the most violent torrents hurtling down from Thunder Mountain for nearly an hour.

But the walls were strong and held fast and I am grateful to those who put such backbreaking work into building them. Just as soon as the worst emergencies around Sedona are taken care of, we'll put a crew together to clear out the silt and debris. So that we'll be ready for next time.

Many thanks to Superintendant Gordy Waite of K&A General Contracting, who came over to help find the source of a leak--which seems to be the one bit of damage we sustained over here. A well built, beautiful construction.

  1. oh my! Thank Goodness for that wash. Never really envisioned a flood of such ferocity but your video certainly captured all of that. Poor old Jude the Tarantula - he must have had a significant swim..... Glad that you only sustained a minor leak - can't really picture Taowatera Towers in a rainy storm - for me it always seems such a sunny place - maybe because every visit is a happy one. Did you know the flood was coming or was it completely unexpected? Good thing you hadn't decided to do a bit of shopping at "Terluckerpucky" - is it very spoiled? Hope my fav. shop up the stairs, the one with the gecko, is OK? One can see the wisdom of not living anywhere but up a slope!! And bless good old Hafiz for being such a star. xxxD

  2. Thanks for all that! The weather is so funny over here, you can often see a number of different weather patterns all over the valley. We get something called I think 'Verga,' too, where it rains, but it's so hot that the falling water evaporates before it hits the ground. There were bright patches of sun that Thursday. We were getting seriously hosed and it was when the rain turned to hail--pieces of ice like pebbles--that I decided to check out the wash, then rushed back to get my little camera to try and film. I thought nothing more of it until the next day when my old catsitter Amy called and asked if I would take in two of her client's cats because their home is destroyed. That's when I found out what had happened to the rest of the town. What's amazing is that for all the damage, and some people having to be pulled out of the creek, no one seems to have been hurt. At least from what I have heard so far.
